The Carla Vlaskamp Early Career Award (€ 750) has been established by the PIMD SIRG. The Award was established to support the participation of a young researcher at the IASSIDD European or World Congresses. Professor Carla Vlaskamp founded the IASSIDD PIMD SIRG. Professor Vlaskamp played an important role in the visibility of persons with PIMD and in generating knowledge for science and practice about people living with PIMD. The Award provides the reimbursement of eligible expenses incurred to attend IASSIDD Congresses.

Lena is doing research on participation in everyday life for persons with profound disabilities. During the IASSIDD World Conference she gave a presentation entitled: Insufficient documentation of participation: A study of contents in implementation plans (IPs) for adults with profound intellectual disabilities (PID) during the symposium on Social participation and inclusion of persons with PIMD. She also presented a poster on Participation for adults with profound intellectual disabilities (PID): Perceptions of officials and staff during the Congress.

Magdi Birtha (Centre for Disability Law & Policy at the National University of Ireland)
Magdi’s PhD research focuses on the conditions necessary to ensure effective participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organisations in policy-making processes and national monitoring processes under the UN disability treaty. She has a special focus on the most marginalized parts of the disability movement including persons with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities.
